Sammy Myerson
NAVAJO SANDPAINTER |
|
SAmmy Myerson is an expert Navajo sandpainter from the Four Corners area near Shiprock and Kirtland on the Navajo Reservation. Sammy makes traditional ceremonial sandpaintings that are intricate, detailed and finely balanced. His sandpaintings sometimes cover the entire plane or surface, including the area where the mat board is located. Sammy learned the art of creating sandpaintings from his late father Cecil Myerson. Sammy's mother, Jean, was also a fine Navajo Sandpainter. Sammy has pushed the boundaries by making more contemporary three dimensional paintings. Sammy's brothers, Orlando and Frederick, are also accomplished sandpainters. |
