STEVE LUCAS is the great grandson of Nampeyo. Steve learned to make pottery from his aunt, Dextra Quotskuyva Nampeyo. Steve is considered a premier Nampeyo potter. His pots are strong in form, interesting in design, and show colors from traditional vegetal origins. Steve's coiled and pinched pots have won many awards at Santa Fe Indian Market, including "Best of Show" in 1998 and "Best of Classification" in 2000. Steve won First Place in the Painted Polychrome Pottery Classification in the style of Zuni, Acoma, Laguna, any form in 2014 Santa Fe Indian Market. Steve also won the Traditional Painted Pottery Division Award at the 2014 Indian Market. Steve has also won awards at the Gallup InterTribal Ceremonnial annual show in August. Steve won the Helen Naha Memorial Award for Excellence in Traditional Hopi Pottery for an Awatovi-style pot, SWAIA Indian Market 2015. |
