Lucy Lewis

ACOMA POTTER

Lucy Lewis, Acoma Potter, Penfield Gallery of Indian Arts Lucy Lewis was born in 1890 at Sky City and died in 1990. She learned and potted for years at Sky City and then started to become known outside of Acoma in 1950. Lucy was important in helping the 11th Century Mimbres style to rise. Her pottery was primarily black on white traditional pots and plates. She is considered to have been one of the most important Native artists and potters in the Southwest.
