Fabian Cheama | Zuni Fetish Carver | Penfield Gallery of Indian Arts | Albuquerque | New Mexico FAbian Cheama is an expert Zuni carver whose fetishes range from mountain lions to snakes and big horn sheep. Fabian uses many of the similar materials used by other carvers in addition to stones as mohave turquoise on his badgers, horned toads or snakes. Fabians's style is intricate and precise in nature. His carvings are some of the most realistic and beautiful carvings made today at Zuni Pueblo. Fabian and his family members have directed fetish carving towards a contemporary and realistic presentation of Zuni fetishes. Fabian recenty passed away in 2024.
