Ricky is the son of Morris Laahty, a talented inlay Zuni jeweler, who died in 1987. Ricky's mother, Sadie Laahty (d), is a niece of Leeka Deyuse (d), and Ricky's nephew is Zuni carver Ron Laahty. Ricky won First Place, Best of Division in the Fetish Category in 2012 Santa Fe Indian Market as well as first place in Traditional Pueblo Fetishes Category. Ricky won first in the Traditional Pueblo Fetish category at the 2013 Santa Fe Indian Market. Ricky's fetishes are popular worldwide.
